Me Again

LOKI: Mommy has been going picture crazy again. I don't know why she is always pulling out the flashy thingie but this time she took a really really nice picture of me. See:

It was really nice and sunny and she said the light on me looks really nice. I likes this picture!

Happy Belated Purrthday

If you can believe it, the Doofi (Loki and Monkee) are already a year old. Their birthday was on April 3rd. I feel bad because I was so busy doing schoolwork that I completely missed it, but they have been getting enough attention to make up for it.

It is hard to believe that Loki is a year old. He's bigger than most cats already and he looks all grown up. However, he still has a lot of kitten in him. Lately, he has gotten into the habit of sprinting across the apartment with this wild look in his eyes, chittering away. He also still likes to attack Daddy's clothes when he's trying to get dressed. He's just a big baby. :)

Great Fuzzies

These past few weeks have been really hard on me. If you go to my main blog you can read all about it. One thing I do want to say is that I have the best kitties in the world. Even though I haven't been home much, the minute I do come home they still flock to me and meow out "MOMMY!!!" It's also comforting to know that if I'm feeling down or stressed out they'll either cuddle around me to make me feel better or do something completely nuts to make me laugh.

Surprisingly, Ayla has been nice during this whole period. No undo thwapping of Kukai or hissing at the Doofi. She's been hanging out in the laundry basket most of the day and then sleeps on my pillow at night. It's amazing how much her purring helps me sleep.

Kukai is finally getting over a nasty eye infection. I had to bring him to the vet a couple of weeks ago to take care of it. Now that the meds are over, he's back into the little vocal love bug that he normally is. It's amazing how much noise comes out of such a little cat.

Bomber has also become vocal. He has really started demanding pets when we're going to sleep at night. Not that I mind 'cause he is my comfort cat. I love falling asleep with my arm around him.

Bailey has been unusually cuddly. It's hard to imagine an 18lb Maine Coon wanting to curl up in my face but she does it. Luckily she's learned over the years how to not suffocate me. When I go to bed at night, she curls up between our pillows and lays her head against mine, most of the time cheek to cheek. It is very adorable.

If there was one cat whose presence is the most appreciated, it is Phoebe. This cat just extrudes pure happiness. All she wants to do is love and be loved. I come home at night and she's right there, reaching up for me to pick her up. Then she showers me with kisses and purrs. If that isn't a good stress reliever, I don't know what is. :)

Where Phoebe is mellow, Fizzy is a complete spaz. She is one of the ones who has made these past few weeks bareable through laughter. She gets these big eyes and her whole body starts twitching before she starts running like a maniac throughout the place. It's that look in her eyes that gets me every time.

The Doofi have also been major clowns. Loki is a big, dumb, loveable mush, while Monkee is too smart for his own good. I mean, how many cats do you know of that can open up the plastic containers where the food is kept? Those two are just huge troublemakers but I love them so much. :)

Don't I look cute?

LOKI: I was just sitting there taking a nappy when the Mommy came in with her picture boxy thingie and tooks the picture of me. Don't I look cute!

I just hope she doesn't knows that I'm the one who took a bites out of the doughnut!

Another one getting warm

While Kukai has officially claimed the cable box on top of the TV in the spare bedroom, I think Fizzy has claimed Darren's laptop. I know she loves to sleep on it because it's warm, but we have found her taking a snooze even when it wasn't on.

I'm WARM!!!

KUKAI: It has been sooooo cold in the house and the Big Grumpy won't share her pillow any more. How is a kitty supposed to keep warm if he can't share warmth with other kitties? So I had to go find a new place to get warm. I used to sleep on top of Dad's monitor but Mommy took it and now there's no room on top of it 'cause she's got a shelf right above it and even though I'm really tiny, I still can't fit in there.

Last night, I was exploring around Dad's desk to try to find some place warm to sleep and looky what I found! I found out that on top of the teevee box is really really warm! Mommy says it's 'cause the cables box gets all hot and everything and I shouldn't really sleep up there but it's so nice and warm.

Oh ya, Mommy thought it was cute that I was sleeping up there and was able to get a picture of me while curling was on teevee box. I don't know what curling is but I really like the teevee box.

Ayla in the window

Today the weather is really beautiful so I opened up a bunch of windows to air out the apartment. When I opened the bedroom window, I noticed Ayla getting up and sniffing the air. She edged slowly towards the window and was about to jump in it when the Doofi beat her to it. I was so miffed. You see, I haven't seen Ayla voluntarily go into a window in well over a year. She tends to prefer lounging in the sunbeams on the bed. So, I kicked Monkee out of the window and put Ayla in his spot. She seemed so happy. Her eyesight isn't great but she was sniffing and enjoying all the scents. She didn't stay long but it was nice to see her enjoying an open window for the first time in a very, very long time.

SNOW!!!

LOKI: Oooooh! We gots lots of da snow stuff today. I really wanted to go out and play in it 'cause it looked so cool, but Mommy said that I would get all wets and colds. It didn't look wets or colds but when Mommy went out to play in it with Daddy she DID come back all wets and colds. I don't think I woulda liked that. It was really, really neat watching it all fall though. I wonder where all those big white puffies come from?

This Just Isn't Normal

Loki has some really weird sleeping positions. Is this normal for a cat?

I love kittens. I especially love big, dumb kittens.

Only Loki would try to clean his back leg and fall off the table in the process.

It's working

Last week, the vet recommended that we put Ayla on Prednazone (I know I'm spelling it wrong but I'm too lazy to get up to look for the bottle hehe). It's amazing the changes we've seen in her look and her behavior. She is eating more which is the most important thing. When the vet told me that she was just above 8lbs, when she had been 13lbs in her prime, this really freaked me out. The only cat in my household who should normally be that tiny is Kukai but he's a little runt.

I've also noticed other things: she's cleaning herself more, reminding the other cats what their places are, and scutching (spelling?). It's an Italian word that nobody I know of knows how to spell correctly (and I used to live in the town the Sopranos filmed in LOL). When she wants something, she gets very vocal to demand it. If that doesn't work, she'll get physical. For example, if I have a piece of cheese, she'll howl at me that she wants some. If I don't give it to her, she'll literally grab my hand with her paw and pull the cheese towards her, as if saying "well if you're not going to give it to me...." I'm just happy to see her back to her old behavior.

Function of Cats

"Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function."-- Unknown

I saw this quote today and at first I was going to agree with it. With the aloof nature of cats, one can wonder "well what is its function?" Then, Monkee came up to me with a little trill in his voice going "mommy!" That's when I said, yes cats do have a function: special companions for humans.

Over the years I've met a lot of people who said "oh I hate cats," but I doubt that they've actually took the time to understand the role of the cat. Once you get past this detached veneer, they really are the ideal companion. Unlike dogs, cats are much more independent. Yes, dogs are fun, cute, and great pets. I plan on having one in the future. But their whole purpose in life is to make their humans happy. If the humans are happy, the puppies are happy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

Cats, on the other hand, aren't that outward in their purpose. My Ayla is a perfect example. This is the grouchiest, grumpiest cat you'll ever meet. You even look at her the wrong way, she'll give you this snarky "what the %$#& are you looking at?" sort of look. But, and she'll never admit this, she can be the most loveable cat. She has that facade of being a grump, but for the people she loves she's willing to put it down.

What am I trying to say? To me, getting love and affection from cats is special to me. While a dog will give kisses to practically everybody, I know my cats are only willing to share their affection to a select few and that makes me feel special. Does that make sense?

Then again, Phoebe loves everybody and everything. She's more like a dog than any other cat I've ever met.

Garbage Pail Kids

So last night I was sitting at my desk when I hear some noise. I look over and there's Loki in the garbage pail. Of course it was a Kodak Moment so I whipped out the camera and got this cute shot:

Well, less than fifteen minutes later, there's Monkee imitating his brother by sitting in the same garbage can:

Now why they want to sit in the garbage can is beyond me, but now I think you'll start to understand why I call them the Doofi.
